Our shared world yearns for acts of compassion, empathy, and kindness. Here are some meaningful ways to contribute to humanity:

  • Help Refugees & Immigrants.

    Share Truth and Combat Misinformation

Now more than ever, sharing  accurate information about refugees is vital.

Learn and share facts about refugee contributions to American communities

Amplify refugee success stories and experiences

Challenge misconceptions when you encounter them

Share reliable resources about immigration from trusted organizations

Personal stories resonate more deeply than statistics. Read and share these immigrant and refugee stories to understand the real-world experience of people seeking safety and welcome.

    A Resource from Global Refuge

  • Support Refugee Families.

    Volunteer Your Time and Talents

Our work depends on volunteers  who help us support refugee families as they build new lives in America. You can help by:

Assisting with apartment setups for newly arrived families

    Providing transportation to appointments

    Tutoring in English language skills

    Helping children with homework

    Serving as a cultural navigator

Through  Global Refuge's volunteer programs, you'll receive training and support to make your service most effective.

  • Immigration Policy.

    Raise Your Voice
With potential changes ahead in immigration policy, advocacy is more important than ever

Learn about issues facing refugees and immigrants

Contact your representatives about supporting humane immigration policy that respects human dignity

Follow us on social media and share content on your channels: Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube

    Write letters to local newspapers

Advocate at your State and local levels

Encourage your faith community to take action

Your voice matters in shaping policies that affect refugee families seeking safety and opportunity.

  • Hire a Refugee or Immigrant.

Stable employment is crucial for refugees and immigrants who are building a new life. Programs like  New American Careers  connect newcomers to employment opportunities. Business owners can inspire a culture of welcome by becoming a  Preferred Refugee Employer.  Individuals can make a significant impact by:

Mentoring newcomers in job search and interview skills

Sharing job opportunities within your network

Supporting refugee-owned businesses in your community

As Global Refuge President & CEO Krish O'Mara Vignarajah notes,  refugees bring valuable skills and determination to the American workforce. By supporting their career journey, you help create stronger, more vibrant communities.

  • Make a Financial Gift.

Financial support  ensures that organizations like Global Refuge can continue providing crucial services:

Make a monthly commitment to sustain year-round programming

Coordinate a faith community or neighborhood giving campaign

Consider including refugee support in your annual giving plan

Every dollar helps provide essential services to refugees building new lives in America.

  • Morgan Chapel Food Pantry Needs Help

Our local Food Pantry (located at Morgan Chapel United Methodist Church in Woodbine on Rt 94) really needs our help. They typically serve between 75 and 100 families per week. With the shutdown and job losses, they are busier than ever.

They have 2 wonderful and dedicated senior gentlemen (Kap and Bruce)  that do ALL the food pick ups and deliveries for the Food Pantry and can really use some help. One actually comes from Pennsylvania every week!

If you are available to lend an extra hand by carrying boxes,  you would be meeting them at the stores (either Food Lion in Lisbon or Weis in Mt Airy) that would be fantastic. One of the men had a stroke recently and should not be lifting heavy boxes, but he is right now because he does not have much help.

Help is needed either on Saturday mornings and/or Tuesday mornings for about 2 hours.  They typically go to the stores and load up their trucks, then go to the Food Pantry to unload the food. You could volunteer once a week (ideal) or less, whenever you can help is appreciated.

If you happen to have a truck or large van and would be wiling to help with picking up and delivering the food that would be even better. You do not have to commit doing it every week, it could be once a month or twice a month - ANYTHING would be a great help. And you could start just by assisting them to see if you are comfortable doing the pick ups and deliveries.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. You must be able to lift boxes and manage stairs.

Please contact Nancy Votta (volunteer coordinator)  or the Pastor (Reverend Jim) if you have any questions or think you could offer help. See below for contact info.

If you would like to volunteer at the food pantry while they are open on Saturdays (from 8:30 am  to 11:15 am) please contact Nancy directly as she manages the volunteers.  We can always use an extra pair of hands and a friendly face on Saturdays.

    Bless you,
